My mission is to explore cognition, data and how we learn, from chess boards to everyday life
Hi. I’m Cyrus Damani, a senior at William B. Travis High School. This website was developed through my journaling practice, which began as a way to handle the numerous international and cross country relocations I experienced during my childhood. Initially, my journal primarily recorded everyday activities, but it evolved into an exploration of human decision-making and behavioral patterns, as well as coping mechanisms.
I learned to play chess at the age of five, and the game remained with me through every relocation our family made. I watched my chess game strategy develop into a mental framework, that helps people handle stressful situations and unpredictable events.
My journal became the place where I discovered connections between chess and everyday life experiences. My chess game notes evolved into studies about cognitive biases, leading me to recognize that tournament stress patterns matched the patterns I had documented. The number of questions in my mind continued to grow as I pondered about the mental operations people use in high-pressure situations. The ability to make rational decisions becomes difficult when all accessible information appears unclear.
These experiences showcase how my curiosity about life led me to new discoveries and places, and I appreciate your visit to this page. The content on this page should inspire you to develop your own curiosity.
