My mission is to explore cognition, data and how we learn, from chess boards to global systems.
Hi. I’m Cyrus Damani, a senior at William B. Travis High School. This site grew out of years of journaling, which began as an outlet to process the constant moves that marked my childhood. Overtime, it transformed from documenting daily life to grappling with bigger questions about human behavior, decision-making, and resilience.
I learned to play chess at age five and the game remained a steady companion during all our family moves. As I grew older, I observed how strategic thinking during chess matches our mental approaches to managing stress and dealing with uncertainty.
My journal served as my space to discover relationships between chess and life. My notes about chess games evolved into studies of cognitive biases and I noticed how stress reactions during tournaments mirrored the patterns I had documented. The number of questions in my mind continued to grow as I wondered about the mental processes that occur during high-pressure situations. The process of making rational choices becomes challenging when all available information seems ambiguous.
The pieces I’m sharing here represent years of this exploration. These are moments of my life when curiosity led me somewhere unexpected. Thank you for visiting. I hope something here sparks your own curiosity
